A Graphical Representation of the Consideration Profile of a Fictitious Case

The following graphic used the d3.js library to construct a radar chart view of the a fictitious case's consideration profile.

The points on the radar dial mirror the main consideration types used by the ICLR to denote the categories of judicial consideration the given case has subsequently received by later cases.

The right hemisphere of the radar dial runs starts at a neutral setting (e.g. "Considered") and runs round to progressively more negative classes of consideration. The purpose of the radar dial is to equip the user with the means to evaluate a case's general profile at the point of access, which isn't possible at a glance in ICLR Online's existing set up.

The mechanics of the radar dial are as follows. First, we count the total number of considerations a case has received (e.g. 10 subsequent considerations). Second, we count up the total number for each category of consideration (e.g. 4 cases considered the passive case, 2 applied it, 2 followed it and 2 did not apply it). Finally, we assign a percentage value to each category of consideration (e.g. 40% of the subsequent cases considered it, 20% applied it etc).

The code then plots these percentage values on the radar dial against the relevent consideration type. The greater the coverage between in the right 180 degrees of the dial, the more positive the case's overall consideration profile. The greater the coverage in the left 180 degrees of the dial, the more negative the consideration profile.

The blue area plots the profile for Case 1, the red area plots the profile of Case 2. We can see that by and large, Case 1 has the most positive consideration profile
